Special Music Event:  Sunday, February 19, at 11:00 am
On Sunday, February 19 our Parish Choir, soloists, and orchestra will present Missa Brevis in D Major by W. A. Mozart.  The term Missa brevis simply means a short setting of the Mass.  Mozart’s Missa Brevis has a message; the message of joy is prevalent in this work.  It is not heavy, somber music nor is it “sweet” in nature, but rather fiery and with a primary message of joy expressed through energy in the music.

Mozart wrote, “Our church music is very different from that of Italy, since a mass must not last longer than three-quarters of an hour.”  Most of his masses are high-spirited pieces written to be accompanied by violins, bass strings, and organ.  He works were required to fit within the allotted service time just as ours do today.

Please join the St. Mary’s Parish Choir, soloists, and orchestra on Sunday, February 19th at 11:00 a.m. for Mozart’s Missa brevis in D Major, K 194.  The mass will be presented in the context of 11:00 a.m. Holy Eucharist.
