Children

Children and Worship

On-line registration for Camp McDowell summer sessions begins February 1.  More info here.

There is good evidence that children learn about worship from parents who make a commitment to be in worship.

Regular Sunday Schedule for Children:
  • Infant and Toddler Nurseries (for infants and children through age 2):  The nurseries are open from 8:35 am through 12:15 pm.
    • Infants (birth to walking):  Room 201.
    • Toddlers (walking well - 2 yrs.): Room 202.

  • Children’s Chapel I for 3K, 4K, and 5K:  Room 207
Opens at 8:35.  Begins at 8:45 am
Parent volunteers will share the gospel for the day with these children and lead them in a simple liturgy. All parents with children this age are asked to volunteer with Chapel on a rotating basis.  The Parent Leaders will return the children to church at the peace.
  • Children’s Chapel II:  1st – 3rd grades:  Chapel
Children will begin worship in the church with their families and follow the Crucifer out to the Chapel following the Gospel.  The children will design and conduct a brief prayer service with the help of the adults in attendance and will return to their families at the Peace.

Holy Communion Classes and Retreat
An offering of St. Mary’s on-the-Highlands and All Saints Episcopal Church
for Children in Grades 3 and 4

Included in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a series of meditations that helps the child better appreciate the gift of the Eucharist.  The classes are targeted for children in the 3rd and 4th grades.  The meditations at St. Mary’s are held on Sundays from 11:15 am to 1:00 pm, February 5th-March 4th.  The retreat for St. Mary’s and All Saints classes will be Saturday, March 10, at St. Mary’s on-the-Highlands.  (Schedule is below.)  Regular attendance is strongly recommended at weekly meditations in order for the child to more fully participate at the Saturday retreat.
